"Want to vs. Have to"
The very core issue with "I have to do it" is the lacking in commitment and ownership of the task. So ask yourself:
- What would be a good reason for me to want to do this?
- Think about the benefit and value of doing the task at hand.
- How would it benefit me or people around me?
- Give it a purpose and you'll perform so much better!
e.g.
"I have to work on these PowerPoint slides today because my boss needs them tomorrow..."
Reframe:
"I want to work hard on these slides for my boss today so that s/he may feel totally adequate to deliver the presentation tomorrow, AND we will become a better team!"
